Campaigning Against Police Cuts

Christopher Wellbelove campaigning against Police cuts, in Angmering.

In March, the Government announced that they intend to cut Police numbers this area, with 1,000 jobs going across Sussex. Christopher Wellbelove has launched a campaign opposing these cuts to an already stretched, understaffed and underfunded Sussex Police force.

In a speech to residents in Steyning, Christopher said, “I support Labour’s plan to stop the Tories relentless attack on our public services. We will protect police jobs and scrap the wasteful and unpopular commissioners with a £800m plan to safeguard the jobs of police officers. Our ‘local policing commitment’ would guarantee neighbourhood policing in every area.” He continued, “By contrast the Tory cuts will see more than 34,000 police jobs, including 22,000 officers, disappear during the next parliament across the UK. This is on top of the 16,000 police officers we have already lost under the Tory led coalition.”

Christopher has a strong history of campaigning, having led Labour’s successful campaigns to save a fire station threatened by Government funding cuts, and save a community swimming pool. Christopher concluded, “I hope you will vote Labour on May 7th and join me in opposing these dangerous and damaging cuts.”
